Beaches, Surfing & Diving

The beaches in Pembrokeshire are probably some of the most spectacular in the country. Solva beach is right on the doorstep and about 15 minutes walking distance from the house. Whitesands beach  near to St David's City is a 10 minute drive away and is a sandy beach suitable for surfing and swimming.  However, Newgale beach with its rugged, sweeping vista is the most impressive, offering excellent surfing and is only 10 minutes by car.  Be sure to check the Newgale beach webcam before setting out.  Travelling further afield to the North above St David's you will find Abereiddy beach which is a popular spot for coasteering an excellent outdoor pursuit for children and adults alike.  You will find a full listing of beaches in Pembrokeshire here.  The local area also provides one of the best areas for scuba diving.


Walking and Wildlife

The Old Coach House is situated right next to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which provides excellent scenic walks for all the family.  If you just want a short walk around the coast next to Solva then the Gribin Coastal Walk is ideal or a longer walk starting from Porthclais harbour is fun.  To plan a trip along the coast path then click here to access the National Trail website.  Just as interesting is a walk in the Preseli Hills and Mountains to see first hand where the Stonehenge "blue stones" originated.   There is an incredible amount of wildlife to observe whilst walking the coast or you can take a boat trip to visit Skomar or Ramsey islands where you will see puffins, seals and dolphins.  Equally there are excellent bird watching opportunities throughout Pembrokeshire.


Activities for Children

The Coach House has excellent facilities for entertaining children and teenagers, there is a pool table, Wii and outside there are three acres of wood to play in and a large lawn which is ideal for one wicket cricket.  Young children will love crabbing on the Solva harbour slipway or jumping into the harbour from the key wall.  A visit to Folly Farm Adventure Park the Oakwood Theme Park or the Blue Lagoon Water Park are all excellent days out for children.


St David's City and Haverfordwest

St David's Cityis 10 minutes by car from the Old Coach House and has numerous pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and an independent supermarket.  It also features a medieval Bishop's Palace and Cathedral which were built in a natural hollow so that they were not visible by raiders from the sea.  Haverfordwest which is the County Town of Pembrokeshire is 20 minutes by car and has supermarkets, pubs, cafés and restaurants.

Historical Sites

Pembrokeshire has numerous historical sites and churches of interest including the impressive Pembroke Castle.


Solva and the local area

Solva is a beautiful traditional fishing village with good pubs, cafés, restaurants,art galleries and shops. An interesting view of the various pubs can be found here.  A short distance along the river is the Solva Woollen Mill which makes for an interesting visit.
